Amateur models tend to be a little stressed out because they do not know anything about modeling. They become defensive and withdrawn, figuring that I will criticize them or their body. In reality, I just need my shot. I want my models to enjoy themselves because I want them to come back for more. I want my models to tell their friends to come work for me, too.
As a photographer, I take every assignment as it comes. If you have large breasts, small breasts, droopy breasts, it does not matter because I will always take my shot. Some models have a lot of photographs "in them" while others do not. If I can get more photographs out of you then I will ask you to come back and work with me again.
A model needs to be assertive and take charge at times. My favorite models can just step in front of the camera and begin to pose without me saying a word. I only need to make minor adjustments to capture what I need on film. Models which require me to pose them like a mannequin take the most amount of work. Some can actually drain all the energy out of the room because they are self-conscious, defensive, and withdrawn.
The difference between a good model and a poor model is their experience. It takes a year or two for a model to come up to speed on how the process works. Very often, an amateur model will have a bad experience with a photographer and become withdrawn or cynical. Most bad experiences are caused by misinformation, poor communication, and unrealistic goals.

Here is the truth behind some common modeling myths:
I have put together a book containing feedback from professional models as well as my own experience dealing with photographers, models, agents, and the dreaded boyfriends. It contains some coarse language, a few illustrations, and is intended for mature audiences.
The book is a guide for the amateur, female, nude model and how to deal with guys like me - the photographer. In the real world there is an infinite number of situations you might encounter. You may skip amateur nude modeling and visit a modeling agency instead. You might get into fashion and runway modeling. No matter what you do, you will need to make some important decisions. I will try to prepare you.
